CH 02 — The Kit

Everything you need to stay in touch

Simple, tough, reliable kit — hired by the day, the weekend or the month. Tell Mal how many people need to talk and he'll sort the rest.

Handheld radios

Rugged handheld two-way radios that just work — clear audio, simple controls, and batteries that last the shift.

Earpieces & headsets

Discreet earpieces for security and front-of-house, or full headsets for noisy sites — hear every word without broadcasting it.

Chargers & spare batteries

Multi-way chargers and spares included where you need them, so a long day never goes quiet halfway through.

Event packs

Need a bigger fleet for a festival, show or site? Bulk packs come boxed, labelled and all set to the same channel.

CH 04 — How It Works

Three steps. No faff.

Call Mal

Tell him your dates, how many people need radios, and where you're working. He'll give you a straight price on the spot.

Kit turns up ready

Radios arrive charged, tested and all on the same channel — with earpieces, chargers and spares if you've asked for them.

Talk, then send it back

Use the kit for as long as you've booked it, box it up when you're done, and that's that. Need it longer? Just say the word.

CH 05 — About

The Mal behind Big Mal's

Big Mal's is run by Malcolm Freeman Feely — a one-man band, and proud of it. When you call, you get Mal. When your kit turns up, Mal's checked it. And if anything's not right, Mal fixes it. No call centres, no ticket numbers, no being passed around.

Radio hire doesn't need to be complicated. You tell Mal what you're doing, he tells you what kit you need and what it'll cost, and it turns up ready to go. That's the whole business.

CH 06 — FAQ

Straight answers

Do I need a licence to use the radios?

Not for licence-free PMR446 radios — they're legal for anyone to use in the UK straight out of the case. If your job needs more power or range, Mal can talk you through licensed options when you call.

What range will I get?

It depends on the terrain — across an open showground you'll get considerably further than through a steel-framed building. For most events, sites and venues, handhelds comfortably cover the whole area. Tell Mal where you're working and he'll make sure the kit suits the ground.

How long can I hire for?

As long as you need — a single day, a weekend festival, or week-by-week for a longer project. Longer hires work out better value, so mention your dates when you get in touch.

Do the radios arrive ready to use?

Yes. Every radio goes out fully charged, tested and set to the same channel, with chargers and any earpieces you've asked for. Switch on and start talking.

How much does it cost?

It depends on how many handsets you need, for how long, and what accessories you want. Call Mal on 07749 536695 for a straight answer and a fair price — no obligation.
